Documentary Filmmaking J Term - Part 3
Documentary Filmmaking - Part 3
Throughout the documentary filmmaking J Term I was in, we got to film on two different locations: Black Hole Coffee Shop and Antidote Coffee Shop. The reason that we filmed at these locations was because one of the other documentary crews was making a documentary about the owners of these coffee shops. During filming, we got to meet the owners and hear about the history of both coffee shops. My documentary crew got to film the documentary crew that was making this documentary. I found it really interesting to hear about both Antidote and Black Hole.
I think the CAS learning outcome I fulfilled during this experience is "Recognize and consider the ethics and choices of actions". Although this CAS outcome may sound totally unrelated to documentary filmmaking, there was a little bit of ethics involved. We had to have consent from the other documentary crew, the owners of the coffee shops, and people working there in order to film them. This is because it is considered both unethical and possibly even illegal to film someone without their consent and then show the film to others. If we had done this, we would have run into serious issues later down the line.
