Martial Arts
Martial Arts
For my A- Term this year, I am taking martial arts. During this course, I have been learning the basics of several different types of martial arts. The primary forms of martial arts I have been learning are kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu. I have also gotten to learn the basics of how to use Kali sticks. Kali sticks are a type of stick used in Filipino martial arts, and they are the most common weapon used in stick fighting. I have personally preferred kickboxing over Jiu Jitsu and the Kali sticks. On top of learning these types of martial arts, I have been learning about the history of martial arts and some of the moral values associated with martial arts. My favorite martial art that I have learned about in this course is kickboxing. I have always wanted to learn to kickbox, and it has been really exciting for me to finally learn how to do it. Although I don't really like Jiu Jitsu, I am still glad that I am learning it because Jiu Jitsu is a good thing to know for self defense.
I think that the CAS outcome I am fulfilling by participating in this martial arts A-Term is "Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process". I took Tae Kwon Do when I was little, but that was a while ago, and I have never taken Jiu Jitsu or kickboxing before. Both of these martial arts are difficult to learn, particularly Jiu Jitsu. Each move in Jiu Jitsu has multiple steps, and sometimes they are hard to remember. Overall, learning Jiu Jitsu and kickboxing has been hard, but I definitely gained new skills during this A-Term. I have learned the basics of kickboxing and Jiu Jitsu, which is really cool to me. I definitely want to continue to do kickboxing after this A-Term because I have really enjoyed it.
