Rock Climbing Competition
Rock Climbing Competition
During my junior year of high school, I went to a rock climbing competition in Austin, Texas. This was the farthest I have ever traveled for a climbing competition, and it was super exciting. Since the competition only lasts one day, and my mom and I didn't want to drive back to Houston late at night, we decided to make a weekend out of it. I left for Austin on a Friday after school, my competition took up most of the day on Saturday, and we came back Sunday afternoon. I placed 11th out of 18 in my age group, which I was a little disappointed about. Despite not doing as well as I wanted, I still had so much fun.
The CAS outcome I fulfilled by doing this competition is "show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences". I definitely think that driving to Austin for a rock climbing competition shows a lot of commitment to rock climbing. I definitely think that going to this competition helped me develop better competition strategies. I also think that it helped me develop my climbing skills in general because I climbed at a gym that I don't go to very much and climbed routes I'm not used to.
