Taking Walks

 Taking Walks

During the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, all of the gyms and skateparks were closed. This meant that I couldn't go rock climbing or skateboarding. So, instead of doing those things, I decided that I was going to take really long walks. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center and Memorial Park were two of the few parks that were open during this part of the pandemic, so these were the places where I took walks. It was really nice to take walks at these parks because they are both really pretty, and the Arboretum has lots of animals like turtles and alligators. It was really nice to be able to get out of the house in a safe way and get some exercise.

I think the CAS outcome I fulfilled through this experience is "Show commitment to, and perseverance in, CAS experiences." Although I don't take walks as much anymore, I was going on these long walks almost everyday during the beginning of the pandemic. I think that these walks were really good for both my mental and physical health. The reason that they were good for my physical health was obvious. The walks were good for my mental health because they helped to improve my mood. Being in nature makes me really calm and happy, so going to the Arboretum or Memorial Park every day was really good for that.
