Dog Walking

 Dog Walking

During the summer, I did some service projects through National Charity League, which is a mother daughter service group I was a part of. One of the service projects I did was walk dogs at K9 Angels. K9 Angels is a nonprofit dog shelter that takes in dogs and puppies that were going to be euthanized at other shelters. They keep the dogs at their location during the day, and the dogs are taken home by fosters at night and on weekends. While the dogs are at the location, they need people to walk them, which is what I did. I really had fun getting to walk and play with all of the dogs. I also got to go into their puppy room before my shift started and play with the puppies, which was so cute and fun. This service project meant a lot to me because I have a dog that I rescued from K9, so I really felt like I was giving back.

I think the CAS outcome I fulfilled by walking dogs at K9 Angels is "Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance." Abandoned and surrendered pets is a global issue, and I think that by helping to walk foster dogs, I was engaging with this issue in a small way. I think that I was engaging because I was helping a nonprofit that is working to get dogs adopted so that eventually, there are no more animals left in shelters. I really enjoy working with animals, so this service project was really meaningful to me. I have continued to work with K9 Angels and am really passionate about it.
