Halloween Costumes

 Halloween Costumes

My favorite holiday is Halloween, and every year, I make my own costumes. I also do the makeup for the costumes that I make. During my junior year of high school, I dressed up as Edward Scissorhands. This costume was a little hard to make because of the shirt and scissor hands, so I ended up having to order those parts online along with a wig. For the makeup, I used white face paint and brown eyeshadow. I put the face paint all over my face first, then put the eyeshadow under my eyes to make my eyes look sunken in. I also used the brown eye shadow to do a heavy contour on my cheeks and jawline so that they looked sunken in as well.

This year, I dressed up as Cruella de Ville. This costume was pretty easy to make since I already had a lot of the things I would need. However, there were a couple of things I still needed to get. A couple of weeks before Halloween, I ordered red high heels, a black and white wig, and a Cruella de Ville jacket off of Amazon. I paired all of this with a black dress that I already had. For the makeup, I did a green smoky eye. I also put on some eyeliner and red lipstick.

I think the CAS outcome I fulfilled by making Halloween costumes is "Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience". These costumes were my idea, and I had to plan how they were going to look. I also had to figure out what I would need for each costume and where I was going to get what I needed. Finally, if I was going to order something online, I had to order it in advance so that it would show up in time. Another thing I had to plan for was if my costume didn't turn out how I wanted it to. I always had a backup idea in case this happened. Making Halloween costumes definitely taught me a lot of important planning skills that I can take with me into the future.
